I was born in this country and have watched this administration spend the last few months treating the founding document like a buffet — take what you want, leave the rest.

I think the Constitution needs updating. I genuinely do. There are things written 200+ years ago that don't map cleanly onto the world we're living in now. I'll say that plainly.

But that's not what's happening here.

This president doesn't like a clause, so he signed a piece of paper saying it doesn't count anymore. And the Supreme Court just reminded him that's not how any of this works. This is not a dictatorship nor is it a monarchy.

And this White House seems focused on testing the limits of our constitutional republic.

Birthright citizenship is in the 14th Amendment. It has been settled law for over a century. You don't get to un-settle it because it's inconvenient.

The administration's argument is that birthright citizenship is conditional — that it depends on the status of your parents. If that logic holds, you have now established that citizenship can be tiered, conditional, and administratively determined.

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson asked the Solicitor General how the government would determine the status of a mother. She asked if pregnant women would face deposition as part of a pregnancy.

We're now at yet another moment in history where the government wants to make a person's body a checkpoint. Not as a patient or a person, but as an incubator for a government classification.

This is Dobbs extended to the delivery room. The state already claimed authority over the pregnancy. Now it's claiming authority over the classification of what's born. The woman is infrastructure in both frameworks.

It is a bodily autonomy issue. It is a Heritage Foundation priority written down in Project 2025 and now being argued before the Supreme Court.
